When you get near the cave, you will likely come across a Deathclaw. Head for it quickly, as you don't want to remain in the radioactive crater for long. Speak with the village leader, and she will eventually divulge the information you need, that the scientist is hiding in a cave nearby.
Get close, climb over the edge and inside the crater you will find a village. As you get closer, the goal becomes obvious, as a glowing light starts to appear, emanating from within a crater. These increase radiation, but you can still continue on. When you get close, you'll notice strange nuclear storms that sometimes blow in. Once you are finally ready to head out, simply make a straight line for the objective.
The area is also teeming with mutated creatures, so if you find yourself struggling, this is a good time to go venture forth into other parts of the map and level up a bit. If you thought radiation would be your only issue, think again. This entire corner of the map is irradiated, and the closer you get to the quest goal, the quicker the radiation will tick up. Before even attempting this quest, make sure you have at least 5 Rad-X, and 5, if not more Radaway as well.
